New accommodation facilities will open in December 2012 on the Otaniemi Campus, in Otaranta 4 by the seaside. These guest apartments are primarily intended to be used by Aalto University Researchers as their first entry home in Finland. The flats are meant especially for initial, so-called entry-level accommodation for newly arrived international researchers and are ideal for incoming tenure track professors. The maximum stay is six months. The space allowing, also researchers from other universities or partners may find short-time accommodation in the elegant hotel.
The building has 52 flats, ranging from 29.5 to 82 m2 in size. The majority, 25, are one-bedroom flats, with 22 studio and five two-bedroom flats. All the flats come with a well-equipped kitchen, basic furnishings and a stylish bathroom. A few of the flats also contain mezzanine sleeping space and several boast sea views with many having a glazed balcony. All the floors have communal lounge areas with an open view over Laajalahti Bay. A laundry room is in communal use.
The rent includes cleaning and the change of linen once a week as well as a broadband connection and television channels without extra charge. Parking spaces are available if necessary, and the building has a storage room for bicycles. Jogging routes by the sea and the bird-watching spots of Laajalahti Bay are all within easy reach. Run by Unisport, the sports facilities of Otahalli Sports Centre are just a stone's throw away.
